Makewana’s Daughters recently went to three primary schools in Zomba Rural to encourage girls to take part in a short story writing competition.

During the visits, Dinah Katonda and Timwa Lipenga explained the idea behind Makewana’s Daughters and encouraged the girls, who are all in Standard Seven, to write short stories. The selected schools are Chikala, Matiti and Chikupira Primary schools. Pupils have been given the option of writing in Chichewa or English.

The girls were given notebooks and pens to be used during the writing exercise. The competition, which is centred around the themes of ‘Climate Change’ and ‘Gender’ will run for a month.  Makewana will liaise with the class teachers regarding competition progress.
